Environment-Driven Solution Saves Waste Stock

Primary pharmaceutical retailer Co-operative Group Pharmacy is set to save each year in unused and out of date stock thanks to a new Excess Stock solution developed by process solutions specialist, Logical Minds.
The new solution replaces the previous manual process, where pharmacists in need of stock had to contact other outlets to see if the required pharmaceuticals were available.
Pharmacists from any branch can now enter details of their excess stockholding on a centralised solution, which allows both Head office and Co-operative Group Pharmacy’s 360 outlets to quickly locate any available excess stock, rather than making a request for new drugs to Head Office.
In addition, it helps Head Office to monitor the ordering and dispensing patterns of various pharmacies and to intelligently redistribute excess drugs from one location to another to meet expected demand in different locations across the country.
Co-operative Group Pharmacy’s Head of IS, Derek Drury, says: “Once Head Office has the excess stock details from our pharmacists, we can match it to known usages in pharmacies across the country and push it out to the relevant sites. We estimate that we are now able to redistribute around £250,000 of stock every couple of months. Not only is Logical Minds’ new process solution helping us to make savings, it is also playing an important part in supporting our environmental policy for waste reduction.”
Co-operative Group Pharmacy chose Logical Minds to develop the new solution as they had already successfully completed a number of other on-demand solutions to improve the Co-op’s business processes.
